Reiki
Reiki is a practice by which users manipulate the energy of patients to promote healing. Originally a Japanese technique, Reiki treats the body, emotions, and spirit as one. Like reflexology, healers have been practicing Reiki for thousands of years — often in conjunction with other therapeutic techniques.
The word Reiki is made up of two Japanese words: Rei, which refers to spiritual/high power, and Ki, which refers to life force energy. Essentially then, Reiki is spiritually guided life force energy.
What To Expect From A Reiki Session
Reiki sessions are usually an hour and occur in a quiet setting. It can remain a quiet session, with the practitioner channeling the energy and noting observations for the end, if the patient prefers. Or, it can be a session where the practitioner shares observations throughout, where it becomes more of a dialogue.
Reiki treatments involve a light, non-invasive touch. Generally the touch occurs on the head or torso, though sometimes it includes limbs in cases where a specific injury or ailment is the focus of the treatment. It’s common to feel serene, unburdened, or even slightly dizzy at first after a Reiki session.
